Comprehensive Guide to Demotivation

The etymological origin of the word demotivation that concerns us now is in Latin. Thus, we can establish that it is the result of the sum of three components of said language:

-The prefix “des-”, which indicates the reversal of the action.

-The noun “motivus”, which can be translated as “movement”.

-The suffix “-cion”, which is synonymous with “action and effect”.

The idea of demotivation refers to the absence of motivation: the external or internal stimuli that lead an individual to develop an action. An unmotivated person, therefore, finds no stimuli to act.

For example: “The violence in the region discourages travelers, who prefer to choose other destinations”, “The lack of recognition leads to the demotivation of employees”, “We have to fight against the demotivation of the police forces”.

It is easy to understand what the notion of motivation refers to if we analyze it in opposition to the concept of motivation. Motivation is something that mobilizes the individual: it generates the desire or intention to carry out an activity to achieve a goal or fulfill an objective. When there is no thing that makes that desire arise, demotivation appears and the person finds no reason to act or make an effort.

It is important to know that there are several types of demotivation, among which we can highlight the following:

-Work demotivation, which, as its name suggests, is what occurs at work and leads to the employee being stagnant, without finding incentives in his position…

-School demotivation, which is suffered by some students who have no desire or interest of any kind in their academic training.

-Social demotivation, which is what occurs when a person has no interest in interacting with others or with certain social circles.

Demotivation is a common problem in the workplace. When a worker feels that no matter what he does, he will get the same result or the same response, he loses interest in trying. A seller who always receives the same salary since he does not receive sales commissions or prizes is likely that he does not mind selling more or less. Demotivation, therefore, is daily. On the other hand, the one who knows that as his sales increase, his income also increases, he will work hard with the motivation of earning more money.

In the context of education, demotivation is present when students feel that the content they are taught is neither useful nor interesting. Different is the case of students who believe that, by learning something, they will improve their skills and can use that to their advantage.

Specifically, although there are many causes that can cause a person to suffer from demotivation, in any aspect of their life, we find that among the most important are that they are too perfectionist, that they have no sense of progressing in no sense, the one that completely lacks challenges or goals…

Likewise, there are other causes such as social pressure, feeling afraid of certain events or circumstances, finding yourself bored in your life in general or in specific areas.
